  • Title: Cardiovascular Events and Cardio Oncology Consultation Management at VMEC Hospital A Cross Sectional Descriptive Study

Abstract

Background:

Cardio-Oncology is an increasingly important subspecialty given the growing recognition that many cancer therapies carry significant cardiovascular toxicity. In Vietnam, data on cardio-oncology consultation models remain limited.

Objectives:

To describe the clinical and paraclinical cardiovascular characteristics of cancer patients referred for Cardio-Oncology consultation at VMEC Hospital, and to analyse the impact of cardiovascular findings on oncology treatment decisions.

Methods:

Cross-sectional descriptive study with retrospective data collection from the electronic Cardio-Oncology consultation registry at VMEC. All cancer patients with cardiovascular concerns referred since October 2025 were included.

Preliminary Results:

39 patients were analysed (mean age 69 ± 15, 54% male). Lung cancer was most prevalent (28%), followed by breast and prostate cancer (18% each). 63% had stage IV disease. The most common cardiovascular issues were hypertension (33%), arrhythmia (18%), and coronary artery disease (10%). 53% of patients were on cardiotoxic drugs. Median LVEF was 65%; mean GLS was −19.5 ± 2.9%. 69% were advised to continue their oncology regimen.

Conclusions:

Hypertension and arrhythmia are the most prevalent cardiovascular problems in cancer patients referred for consultation. The majority can continue oncology treatment with appropriate cardiovascular management. Larger prospective studies with longitudinal follow-up are needed to assess long-term outcomes.
